App Review: Happier
Happier is a free iPhone and Android app that helps you celebrate happy moments for yourself and others. If you ever feel that your Facebook or Twitter stream is spending too much time on the dark side of life, then you should try this app.
Happier offers you a space to post about your happy moments and applaud the happy moments posted by other users. You can sign in with your Facebook or email address. It will ask you to connect friends and contacts to see if they are also on the app.
It also offers interactive courses designed to make you happier. There are several courses you can purchase, but the free course is on gratitude. There are ten lessons in the gratitude course and activities for each to get you into the habit of recognizing the good moments in your life.
I noticed in my daily Facebook activity that I am constantly searching for the happier posts— things like puppies, food, and inspirational videos. With Happier I don’t need to search; it runs on 100% happy. Reading about other people’s happy moments help me smile more. I did notice a significant change in my life when I focused on the Happier posts instead of those on regular social media. There seemed to be more of the things I loved finding in Happier.
If you want motivation to get happier and plant happiness seeds this app can add just enough motivation each day to help you have the energy to achieve your goals.
The founder and owner of Happier, Nataly Kogan, helps the community realize that it’s the little moments that create happiness rather than large goals completed. She gave a TEDx talk in Boston in 2013 where she explains the research behind her discovery on how to achieve happiness. Her philosophy that she shares at the end of the presentation is, “Life is made of moments. Choose to create and collect the happy ones.”
